Covid-19: Maldives reports 42 new cases, 99 recoveries

Maldives confirmed 42 new cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic on Thursday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the new cases include 27 Maldivians and 15 foreigners.

Five of the new cases were reported from residentials islands whereas the remaining 37 were discovered from the greater Malé region.

Thursday’s cases confirmed from the 1,524 samples tested within the past 24 hours.

With this development, the country’s Covid-19 case count has risen to 11,358.

Further, the public health authority also reported the highest number of recoveries in days, on Thursday.

99 additional recoveries reported by 6pm Thursday has pushed the total number of recovered coronavirus-stricken patients to 10,383.

Out of the 931 active cases of the virus, 340 patients are currently seeking treatment at isolation facilities, the same as the previous day.

35 patients are hospitalized for treatment, this is three less than Wednesday.

Statistics go on to reveal that there are 47 active cases of the virus across 21 residential islands and 23 resorts including 22 tourist and 30 resort workers. The active cases in residential islands include 43 Maldivians and four foreigners.

Although coronavirus cases being reported of recent are slowly decreasing, the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has stressed that the public needs to continue adhering to public safety guidelines and precautionary measures in order to see visible results.
