Maldives Covid-19 case count has surpassed 11,000.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported 69 new cases of the virus as well as 47 additional recoveries from the infection by 6pm Wednesday.
The public health authority’s nightly statistics reveals that the new cases include mostly foreigners; 40. The remaining 29 patients are locals.
63 of the cases were discovered from the greater Malé region whereas six of the new cases were confirmed from residential islands.
Wednesday’s cases were confirmed from the 1,221 samples tested within the past 24 hours.
With this, Maldives Covid-19 tally has reached 11,062.
With the additional recoveries, a total of 9,880 coronavirus-stricken patients have recovered thus far.
61 patients are hospitalized for treatment at the moment, which is six patients less than the previous day. Further, there are 367 patients seeking treatment at isolation facilities nationwide.
With this development, the number of active cases in the island nation has been pushed to 1,140 from Tuesday’s 1,118.
There are active cases of the virus in 19 residential islands and 19 resorts, with the inclusion of 14 tourists and 19 resort workers.
Most of the active cases in residential islands currently are local cases, as such there are 152 active cases across islands in total, with 93 local cases and 59 foreigners.
Kadhdhoo island of Laamu atoll currently has the greatest number of active cases, at 62, followed by Addu City’s Gan district, at 55.
Since it surfaced in the island nation on March 7, the pandemic has taken 35 lives, both local and foreigners.
