Maldives has reported 35 new cases of the coronavirus pandemic.

All of Sunday's cases were reported from the greater Malé region. This is the first time in weeks that an infection has not surfaced from a residential island.

The new cases include 27 Maldivians and eight foreigners.

Maldives Covid-19 tally has reached 10,894 with this development.

Sunday's cases were confirmed from the 1,282 samples collected within the past 24 hours.

Authorities also reported 88 recoveries from the virus, which pushes the total number of recovered patients to 9,742.

There are 1,110 active cases of the virus currently. Out of this, 72 patients are hospitalized for treatment. This is two less than the previous day.

Further, there are 368 patients seeking treatment at isolation facilities.

The public health authority also revealed that there are active cases of the virus in 21 residential islands and 20 resorts, with the inclusion of 10 tourists and 16 resort workers. There are 152 active cases across islands in total, with 89 local cases and 63 foreigners.

The most number of active cases is currently in Kadhdhoo island of Laamu atoll, 58, followed by Addu City’s Gan district, at 55. There are also seven active cases in Kulhudhuffushi City in northern Maldives.
