66 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic have been confirmed in Maldives.

Six out of the total new cases were detected in residential islands and the remaining from the greater Malé region, revealed the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

The authority’s nightly publication goes on to reveal that Friday’s cases were confirmed from the 1,232 samples collected within the last 24 hours.

The new cases include 54 Maldivians and 12 foreigners and pushes the total number of Covid-19 cases to 10,808.

Further, 65 additional recoveries were also reported by 6pm, Friday.

With this development, a total of 9,654 patients have observed full recoveries from the infection thus far.

Out of the 1,113 active coronavirus cases, 74 patients are hospitalized for treatment, which is seven more than the previous day.

While 384 patients were seeking treatment at isolation facilities on Thursday, the number dropped to 369 by sundown on Friday.

The public health authority also revealed that there are active cases of the virus in 21 residential islands and 19 resorts, with the inclusion of 10 tourists and 16 resort workers. There are 147 active cases across islands in total, with 83 local cases and 64 foreigners.

Kadhdhoo island in Laamu atoll has 58 active cases currently. The pandemic has taken 34 lives in the island nation.
