Shamweel Gasim, a former footballer has been arrested under suspicions of being in possession of narcotics.
RaajjeMV understands that he was arrested while towing a stranded dinghy, on his own speedboat. He is to have denied having any information regarding the narcotics confiscated on the dinghy.
Officers from the Maldives Police Service (MPS)’s Drug Enforcement Department, Marine Police and South Police division had conducted the operation in southernmost Addu City to which the dinghy was travelling when it stopped in the middle of the ocean.
A number of arrests were made in connection to the operation, where large amounts of narcotics were confiscated.
Shamweel was a celebrated midfielder in his days playing for New Radiant Sports Club, he was also a part of the national football team and left the field in 2017. He last played for TC Sports Club.
The former footballer went into fishing after giving up his football career.
