The coronavirus case count in the Maldives has surpassed 10,000.

75 new infections reported on Friday pushed the country’s Covid-19 tally to 10,014, revealed the Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s nightly publication.

Out of the new cases, 66 were detected from the greater Malé region and the remaining nine from residential islands.

HPA revealed that the new infections include 53 Maldivians and 22 foreigners.

With an additional 76 recoveries from the virus, the island nation has seen a total of 8,673 patients fully recovered from the pandemic by 6pm, Friday.

Maldives currently has 1,300 active cases of the virus.

796 patients remain at isolation facilities which is 151 more than the previous day and five patients were discharged from the hospital within the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of hospitalized patients to 82.

Further, HPA also revealed that there are active cases in 22 residential islands and 26 resorts with the inclusion of 15 tourists and 30 resort workers. There are a total of 47 active Covid-19 cases in residential islands, including 34 Maldivians and 13 foreigners.

The global pandemic has taken 34 lives in the island nation to date.

While monitoring measures remain effective in Hoandedhdhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll, Nolhivaram island and Kulhudhuffushi City in Haa Dhaal atoll were placed under monitoring on Friday following the discovery of infections.

The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) revealed that a crew member onboard a vessel from the north city tested positive after having exhibited symptoms.

Contact tracing is currently underway.
