Covid-19: Maldives reports 48 new cases and recoveries

Maldives reported 48 Covid-19 infections and recoveries on Tuesday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s nightly statistics reveal that one case was detected from a residential island and the remaining 47 from the greater Malé region.

The new cases include 28 Maldivians and 20 foreigners.

With this development, the country’s Covid-19 case count has risen to 9,818.

Further, with the 48 recoveries reported by 6pm Tuesday, the total number of recovered patients has been pushed to 8,438.

While Maldives had 1,340 active cases of the virus on Monday, the number remained unchanged the next day.

The number of coronavirus-stricken patients isolated for treatment dropped from 692 to 674 on Tuesday and while 96 patients were hospitalized for treatment the previous day, four patients were discharged from the hospital, which means that 92 patients remain hospitalized for treatment.

While monitoring measures had been effective in Hoandedhdhoo island and Madaveli island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll, monitoring was lifted from the latter on Monday.

Further, HPA also revealed that there are active cases in 23 residential islands and 25 resorts with the inclusion of 16 tourists and 34 resort workers.
