Maldives reported 81 new cases of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic on Saturday.
Statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) reveal that the new cases have pushed the country’s Covid-19 case count to 9,649.
Out of the new cases, 70 were detected in the greater Malé region whereas 11 were discovered in residential islands.
58 Maldivians and 23 foreigners are among the new cases detected by 6pm, Saturday.
Further, the country’s total number of patients who have observed full recoveries from the virus has been pushed to 8,188 with the 111 new recoveries reported on Saturday. This is a rise in comparison to the 44 recoveries reported on Friday, the lowest amount in days since the country has been reporting over 100 daily recoveries.
Maldives currently has 1,422 active cases of the virus, 30 less than the previous day.
The pandemic has claimed 33 lives in the island nation thus far, and 111 patients remain hospitalized for treatment.
While 642 patients were isolated for treatment on Friday, the number rose to 650 by Saturday.
Further, health authorities also revealed that there are active Covid-19 cases in 22 residential islands and 25 resorts with the inclusion of 15 tourists and 39 resorts workers.
Monitoring measures are in effect in Madaveli and Hoandedhdhoo islands of Gaaf Alif atoll, the latter has 19 active cases of the infection.
According to the statistics 6,122 Maldivians make up the Covid-19 tally while the remaining 3,564 are foreigners out of which most are Bangladeshi nationals.
