The total number of patients who have fully recovered from the global Covid-19 pandemic in the Maldives, has surpassed 8,000.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported 67 new cases of the virus by 6pm Thursday, alongside 130 recoveries.
62 cases were confirmed in the greater Malé region whereas the remaining five were detected from residential islands.
The new cases include 44 Maldivians and 23 foreigners according to the public health authority.
With this development, the country’s total Covid-19 case count has reached 9,494.
With the over 100 recoveries reported on Thursday, the total recoveries currently sits at 8,033.
Maldives currently has 1,422 active cases of the virus, out of which 684 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities which is 43 less than the previous day.
While the number of coronavirus-stricken patients hospitalized for treatment was at 115 on Wednesday, the number dropped to 104 the next day.
The public health authority further revealed that there are active Covid-19 cases in 20 residential islands as well as 29 resorts, including 21 tourists and 48 resort workers.
The number of coronavirus-stricken patients observing full recoveries from the infection has been escalating in recent days. Over the past week, the number of daily recoveries reported has been higher than daily cases, reported lower than 100 except the 121 new cases confirmed on Sunday, a day after the lowest daily rise of 62 cases.
Monitoring measures are currently effective in two islands outside of the greater Malé region; Hoandedhdhoo island and Madaveli island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll.
Covid-19 has claimed 33 lives in the Maldives thus far.
