Guesthouses and tourist facilities in the Greater Malé Region are expected to begin operating during November, once Covid-19 daily cases die down.
Taking to Twitter, Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom revealed that the government hopes to reopen guesthouses in the region during November.
As such he noted that guesthouses and tourist facilities in the region can only be reopened after two consecutive weeks where Covid-19 case percent being reported are observed below five.
In comparison to the previous month, daily rise in Covid-19 cases reported during September has observably been decreasing. As such, Maldives has been reporting an average daily increase lower than 100 cases in the region, in the past few weeks.
The island nation reported 92 new cases in the capital city on Wednesday, the Covid-19 tally currently sits at 9,427.
Guesthouse businesses in residential islands will be allowed to reopen for operations on October 15, the government earlier revealed.
There are a set of conditions under which guesthouses will be resuming operations and this will be done under guidelines and instructions provided by the relevant authorities and that the government aims to carry out the procedure in a way that sets an example globally.
On July 15, the government reopened borders for international travel after over three months since borders were closed on March 27. Maldives saw 12,766 tourist arrivals within two months.
