Maldives on Thursday reported the highest number of daily recoveries as well as the lowest number of Covid-19 cases, in weeks.
The country reported 271 recoveries and 66 new cases of the infection by 6pm, Thursday.
The Health Protection Agency revealed that the new cases include 50 Maldivians and 15 foreigners, out of which 63 were detected from the Greater Malé Region whereas the remaining three were reported from residential islands.
With this development, the country’s Covid-19 tally has risen to 8,900.
The over 200 recoveries mean that the total number of recovered patients has been pushed to 6,559.
Out of the 2,304 active cases of the virus, 1,029 patients remain at isolation facilities for treatment and the number of hospitalized patients saw a rise by seven by Thursday, in comparison to the previous day. As such, while there were 127 Covid-19 patients hospitalized for treatment on Wednesday, the number rose to 134 on Thursday.
Authorities also revealed that a total of 90 Covid-19 cases have been detected residential islands, including 82 locals and eight foreigners and there are active cases currently in 25 residential islands and 22 resorts with the inclusion of 17 tourists and 41 resort workers.
Monitoring measures are currently implemented Madaveli island and Hoandedhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll. The latter currently has 35 active cases including four who were in home quarantined and the remaining 31 who were identified contacts of the positive cases.
Statistics also revealed that there are four patients at the Gaaf Alif Villingili Covid-19 Facility which has a 43-patient capacity, two in Laamu Gan Covid-19 Facility which has a capacity of 41 patients and one patient in the 45-patient capacity Baa Atoll Covid-19 Facility.
The new strand of coronavirus has claimed 31 lives in the Maldives thus far.
