Monitoring measures have been placed in Thinadhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll.
The monitoring measures were prompted by a recent case of the new coronavirus in the island, where samples collected from a man symptomatic to the virus tested positive.
The man has recent travel history to the Maldives capital, Malé City and works on a boat that frequently travels between the island and the capital.
The measures were implemented under the orders of the Health Protection Agency (HPA) which informed the council to do so from Saturday onward, as authorities continue with contact tracing procedures.
Kulhudhuffushi City in Haa Dhaal atoll is also currently under monitoring, revealed HPA.
Following this, entry and exit from both islands, have been restricted.
Further, the Haa Dhaal Atoll Education Center announced its decision to close down starting Sunday, they revealed that they will announced when classes will resume, at a later date.
Google classes are to continue for students, as before, revealed the center’s principle in a notice to guardians and parents.

A number of Covid-19 cases are being reported in outlying islands at a time there has been a surge in Covid-19 cases nationwide, as such, there are active coronavirus cases currently in 32 residential islands and 15 resorts.
