Maldives reported 178 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday.
This is the highest daily increase in days.
While the cases were detected from the 1,054 samples tested within 24 hours, it pushes the country’s total case count to 7,225.
The new cases include 141 locals, 25 Bangladeshis, 10 Indians and two Spaniards.
Further, with the 122 additional recoveries reported on Wednesday, a total of 4,561 patients have recovered now.
There are 2,636 active cases in the island nation currently, and there have been 28 deaths from Covid-19.
While 173 patients were receiving treatment at hospitals the previous day, there are now 162 patients admitted. 1,458 patients have been moved to isolation facilities for further monitoring.
Covid-19 cases were mostly detected from capital Malé City for the first few months after the Covid-19 pandemic reached the island nation. However, with the start of the third phase in July, there have been a surge in cases in islands as well.
As such, there are active cases in 33 residential islands currently, as well as 15 resort islands.
Some tourists that arrived in the Maldives after borders were reopened on July 15 have tested positive for Covid-19; the cases at resorts include 11 tourists and 15 staff members.
