The government has publicized the temporary lists of applicants for flats under the 'Hiyaa Public Housing Project'.

The list publicized by the Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes on Monday include categories housing for doctors and nurses (H4), housing for teachers (H5), housing for Malé City residents (H8) and housing for persons with disabilities and family (H10).

Those that have any issues with the temporary list of applicants can submit their them via the official Hiyaa Complaints Portal before 3pm on September 14, according to the committee.

Details of flat recipients were included in the list, as well as how they were awarded.

The ‘Hiyaa’ housing scheme was launched during the administration of now incarcerated, former president Abdulla Yameen. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih formed the Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes as part of the efforts to investigate all issues related to previous housing projects of the government including the “Hiyaa” project, “Gedhoruveri kurun” project and “Gulhifalhu Housing Project”.

While the work on the project commenced in December 2017, the project was to be completed in 730 days as per the agreement. Hence, the work should have completed by December last year.

The project was marketed and initially launched to provide 7,000 housing units being developed at the reclaimed ‘Phase 2’ area in Hulhumalé, the capital city’s urban extension.

While this has since been reduced to 6,720 flats, the Housing Development Corporation had said that the reason for this is because of the decision to set up commercial areas on the ground floor of each tower.
