A 24-year-old man who violated the Covid-19 home quarantine procedures, has been remanded by 15 days.

The man is to have travelled to Villingilli island of Gaafu Alif atoll from capital Malé City.

While he was arrested on suspicion of violating the home quarantine order, police said that the Villingilli Magistrate Court has since ordered him to be remanded for a 15-day period.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has issued guidelines on traveling between residential islands, especially from the capital where a number of Covid-19 cases have been detected.

The guidelines also include a 14-day home quarantine requirement for those traveling to islands, as part of the work to ensure that the virus is controlled in other islands.

They will be tested for Covid-19 after the quarantine period.
