The People’s Majlis has on Monday begun work to dismiss Zeena Zahir from the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom).

The issue has been forwarded to its committee on independent institutions for further review.

While the committee had on August 10 made the decision to remove Zeena from the commission, the work can officially commence after an announcement from the speaker at a sitting.

This was done at Monday’s sitting.

While work in ongoing to remove Zeena from Broadcom, new members were appointed to the commission last year in a similar manner.

Maldives Broadcasting Commission comprises of seven members.

The committee on independent institutions is also in discussions to merge Broadcom with the Maldives Media Council (MMC).
