A resident of Hinnavaru island in Lhaviyani atoll, has tested positive for Covid-19, while in home quarantine.

Local media outlets have cited the island council having stated the individual was asymptomatic and reportedly in good condition.

The individual, a 33-year-old man, tested positive after completing the required 14 days in quarantine after returning from capital Malé City.

Contact tracing is currently underway, and the patient is still in home quarantine.

Maldives reported a record number of 152 new cases of the infection on Thursday, since the government began the lockdown ease plan.

142 out of the new cases were from the Greater Malé Region whereas 10 new cases were reported from the outlying atolls.

With this development, the country’s Covid-19 case count has been pushed to 3,719.

The number of active cases in the country currently sits at 1,120 and with 14 recoveries reported on Thursday, recoveries have risen to 2,568.
