Over 100 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the Maldives, within 24 hours
According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 137 of the 1,443 samples tested within 24 hours tested positive for the infection.
This includes 92 locals, 31 Bangladeshis, nine Indians, four Sri Lankans and a Filipino national.
This pushes the country’s total Covid-19 cases to 3,506.
No additional recoveries were reported on Tuesday, and the total recoveries sits at 2,547.
With Tuesday’s confirmed cases, Maldives’ Covid-19 cases has reached 929. There have been 15 deaths.
While over a 100 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in a single day, this is one of the highest single days counts in the island nation this far.
Maldives confirmed a community spread in mid-April, and while the greater Male’ region was immediately placed on lockdown, authorities began lockdown easing in late May. The country is currently in the third phase, and there have been a surge in the number of locals testing positive for the virus.
Earlier on Tuesday, Health Minister Abdulla Ameen issued a warning via Twitter, over the increased threats of the pandemic, and called on the people to follow infection prevention measures and social distancing rules.
