An additional 44 locals have tested positive to Covid-19, along with 14 Bangladeshis and one Indian national.

A total of 59 new cases were reported on Wednesday, bringing the country’s Covid-19 case count to 3,103.

The cases were confirmed from the 674 samples tested in 24 hours.

No recoveries were reported on Wednesday. Hence, the total recoveries remain at 2,397 while active cases have risen to 676.

There have been 15 deaths to Covid-19 thus far, and health officials have expressed concern over the increase in patients requiring treatment at hospitals.

While the country’s first coronavirus cases were confirmed from resorts, a community transmission was detected in mid-April. The greater Malé was immediately locked down, and authorities initiated the first phase of lockdown easing on May 29.

The country is currently in the third phase, which saw a number of eases to movement restriction measures.
