33 new cases have been reported on Monday

Maldives Covid-19 cases has reached 2,999.

33 new cases have been reported on Monday; 23 locals, six Bangladeshi nationals and four Indians.

This is out of the 721 samples tested within 24 hours.

Further, with the additional seven recoveries reported on Monday, the country’s total recoveries is at 2,369.

While there have been 15 deaths to Covid-19 thus far, there are currently 600 active Covid-19 cases.

Maldives’ first few Covid-19 cases were confirmed from resorts, while a community spread was detected on April 15. While the lockdown easing was initiated on May 29, the country entered the third phase on July 1.

While most of the cases confirmed prior to this had mostly been expatriate workers, there has been and increase in locals testing positive for the virus since.

Health officials said that most of these cases were being detected from government offices, who reopened during this phase on July 5.

Authorities have also expressed concern over the increase in patients requiring treatment at hospital.
