An individual has been remanded after being arrested from Thimarafushi island of Thaa atoll, for being in possession of narcotics.

Officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) stationed on the island arrested the 48-year-old Maldivian man in the morning of July 10.

The arrest was made following a tip off and the officers patrolling the streets of the island at the time, took the man under their custody to search him.

A piece of paper stuffed with suspected narcotics, was found on him.

The man has since been remanded by three days by the Veymandoo Magistrate Court, at a facility decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The case is under further investigations by the Thimarafushi police station.

The arrest was made as part of the authority’s ongoing operations to curb drug trafficking and smuggling in the island nation.
