Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Coastguard has rescued passengers, after their boat sank.
MNDF’s media officer, Ibrahim Azim said that they received a report of the incident at around 12:29pm on Monday. The boat was to have been travelling from capital Malé City to Dhonakulhi island in Haa Alif atoll.
He said that there were five passengers onboard; four Maldivians and a foreigner.
Noting that MNDF Coastguard launch was dispatched to the area, Azim said that the five individuals were rescued by 2:20pm. He added that all five are in good condition.
MNDF had also used their helicopter in the search operation.
The boat sank nine miles north of Kaashidhoo island in Kaafu atoll.
