Student loans, scholarships to continue "uninterrupted" despite current challenges
The president announced this via Twitter, on Thursday evening

The government had, back in March, announced the decision to defer student loan payments for a period of six months

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured that the student loan scheme will continue despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the High Achievers scholarships and the President’s Awards scholarship.

The president announced this via Twitter, on Thursday evening, adding that his administration remains focused on higher education and training opportunities for Maldivians.

The government had, back in March, announced the decision to defer student loan payments for a period of six months due to the global pandemic.

According to president, there are over 4,000 students who are currently repaying their loans.

Further, the Ministry of Higher Education confirmed the decision to provide financial aid to Maldivians studying in foreign countries are in in-need amid the ongoing crisis, in May. This aid is to be accorded to all Maldivians studying abroad -both self-funded as well as those supported via private sponsors- for a two-month period.
