Island Aviation Services Limited has settled the pending payment of MVR six million, to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
For over a year, Island Aviation failed to pay rent for office space on the 6th floor of the Dar Al-Eiman or commonly known as Daarul-Imaan building, thus violating a lease agreement signed on November 16, 2016 with the ministry.
The ministry revealed though its audit report for 2018 that the ministry had entered a five-year lease agreement with Island Aviation for office space on the 6th floor of the Daarul-Imaan building on November 16, 2016, leased for a total of MVR eight million.
During February this year, the Auditor General revealed via a report that Island Aviation settled MVR two million out of the total, on April 3, 2018. This is in violation of the agreement, under which Island Aviation was specified to deposit MVR six million to the ministry's mosque fund within three days of the agreement being signed while the remaining MVR two million was to be paid within a month
The report noted that Island Aviation had violated the contract since they failed to pay rent for over a year.
In August 2019, Island Aviation entered another agreement to secure the MVR six million debt. The new agreement noted that the payment can be settled by making monthly installment payments of MVR one million within six months.
