A resolution calling for an inquiry into the systemic oppression of women, has been submitted to the People’s Majlis.
The resolution, submitted by deputy Speaker and Galolhu-North constituency MP Eva Abdulla, was accepted by the parliament with 71 votes at Tuesday’s sitting and was forwarded to the committee on human rights and gender for further review.
While the incumbent administration has committed to facilitate the development of women and their empowerment, the deputy speaker’s resolution calls to conduct a parliamentary inquiry to identify the systemic issues impacting women as well as the challenges and obstacles faced in women’s development.
The resolution also calls to take the necessary measures to end gender inequality, as well as to seek a permanent solution by identifying the laws that requires amendment to end gender discrimination.
