A yellow alert has been issued over regions expected to experience squally weather.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) issued the alert over the regions between Laamu atoll to Addu City.
The alert was issued after predicting torrential rain showers, thunderstorms and winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour over these regions.
MET revealed that the advisory is effective from 9am to 12pm.
The southernmost city is one of the regions that have experienced severe monsoon activities since the southwest monsoon began, wreaking havoc across some parts of the island nation. Consistent heavy rain caused flooding in several parts and strong winds uprooted trees and tore off roofs causing damage to property in a number of islands.
Generally the department predicts fairly widespread rain showers with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms throughout the country.
Winds may gust up to 40 miles per hour during showers and surface winds are expected to vary between southwest to westerly at 10 – 20 miles per hour.
Further, seas are expected to be moderate becoming rough during showers and citizens have been urged to practice caution for heavy rain showers and strong winds.
