Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested a man in connection to a sexual assault case of a minor.
The 38-year-old Maldivian man was arrested on Friday night under a court order.
Police received reports of the man sexually assaulting a girl, 11, inside a guesthouse in the capital Malé City, last Wednesday.
Authorities have since launched an investigation into the case and police earlier revealed that such cases involving children will be probed as serious cases.
Further, police have also implemented the required measures in cooperation with relevant authorities, to ensure the safety of the victim.
As such, the child has been taken into a safe environment since.
This comes at a time several such cases are being reported from different parts of the country, amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
