Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested a man who attacked a woman in Maalhendhoo island of Noonu atoll.
Police received the reports of the confrontation at around 6:45am, Tuesday.
The woman, 39, was attacked by the 50-year-old man while she was in the wooded region behind a house.
The man was arrested a little past 6pm on Tuesday, under a court order.
The case is currently under investigation by the Manadhoo Police Station.
At a time the country is battling the Covid-19 pandemic, such cases of violence and abuse have been surfacing from various parts of the island nation.
