The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a white alert over regions where adverse weather is expected to prevail.

The alert was issued from Thaa atoll to southernmost Addu City on Sunday morning.

MET revealed that heavy rain showers and thunderstorms with winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour are expected over these regions.

The department revealed that the advisory is effected from 8am to 1pm.

The southernmost city is one of the regions that have been affected the most due to the strong monsoon activities since the southwest monsoon season began. As such, deep flooding caused by heavy rain showers has damaged a number of households property in the scatter of districts in the city.

Generally, scattered rain showers and a thunderstorms are expected over the entire country, with a few heavy showers at times.

Further, the department revealed that surface winds will vary from southwesterly to westerly at 7 – 17 miles per hour. Winds may gust to 40 miles per hour during showers, predicted MET.

Seas are expected to be moderate becoming rough during showers throughout the island nation and MET has urged everyone to practice caution against the adverse weather conditions.
