Maldives-India relationship continues to be strong and robust: FM Shahid

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, Sunjay Sudhir, held discussions on various subjects on Sunday.
The two met at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and were wearing masks as per the Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s guidelines.
Shahid tweeted that he had a “good discussion” with the high commissioner “on Covid-19 related assistance, consular assistance, ongoing development projects and working with the new normal”.
He added that Maldives-India relationship “continues to be strong and robust”.
The neighbouring nation has been assisting in Maldives’ Covid-19 response efforts since the beginning, including in evacuating Maldivians in China as well as providing medical and food aid support.
Sudhir had, in an interview to RaajjeTV earlier in May, stated that India will make all efforts “to make sure that essential food continue to come to the Maldives in good supply and there is no shortage” amid the crisis.
While Maldives has confirmed a total of 1,773 Covid-19 cases thus far, 186 are Indian nationals. Majority of the Covid-19 patients in the country are Bangladeshi nationals, at 974, and 563 locals have tested positive.
