Maldives' relationship with India is "more interlinked" than with China, says Maldives Ambassador to India Ahmed Mohamed.

In an interview to India's 'The Statesmen', Mohamed was questioned over China 'vigorously courting [Maldives] by making large-scale investments,' to which he responded that the relationship Maldives has with India "has a special dimension to it."

"It is more interlinked. It is more engaging," added the Ambassador.

Noting that his country seeks "to be engaged will all its bilateral partners," he said that India was "in a much better position than others to provide concessional financing for the developing needs of the Maldives and has much wider scope and space to further enhance and strengthen the special relationship".

Ambassador Mohamed also denied that there has been a rise of anti-India sentiments in the Maldives, adding that these are questions that arises "when the voices of disgruntled politicians are perceived or portrayed as reality".
