A community spread was confirmed on April 15

44 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the Maldives.

This pushes the country’s total to 1,591.

The new cases announced early Saturday morning include 29 Bangladeshi nationals, 13 Maldivians and two Indian nationals.

Health officials have increased random sampling from the streets, especially targeting the expatriate population. Further, while the country has started phase one of lockdown easing, authorities have said that there could be a surge in number of cases initially.
