Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested a man for attempting to sexually assault three elderly women in southernmost Addu City.
The authority revealed that arrested was a 30-year-old man who was involved in sexually assaulting three different women over 60 years of age.
The man was arrested on May 28 under a court order, after the authority received reports of him attempting to sexually assault a 64-year-old woman in Meedhoo district of the southernmost atoll, a little past 10am on Thursday.
The same day the man had sexually assaulted two other women, a 66-year-old and a 65-year-old.
The case is under further investigation.
Police urged the public to report crime if they are in the know, without hesitation.
A number of sexual abuse cases are being reported from regions of the island nation, at a time the country is battling the Covid-19 pandemic, steadily infecting hundreds in the Maldives.
