MET urges caution against the adverse weather conditions

Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued two white alerts over regions predicted to experience squally weather.

The department issued the alerts from Haa Alif to Lhaviyani atoll and Laamu Atoll to Addu City.

The advisory states that heavy rain showers and thunderstorms with winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour are expected over these regions.

The alerts have been in effect since 2am and ends at 8am.

Generally, the department has predicted seas to be moderate becoming rough during showers throughout the country and urges caution against the adverse weather conditions.

The country will experience fairly widespread rain showers with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms at times.

Further, MET predicted surface winds to vary from west to northwesterly at 10 – 20 miles per hour in the north as well as central Maldives and south to southwesterly at 8 – 18 miles per hour in the south.

Winds are expected to gust up to 45 miles per hour during showers, throughout the entire country.
