WHO donates 5,000 more Covid-19 testing kits to the Maldives

With this, the island nation's testing capacity has been increased

WHO also donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the island nation earlier

The donation was made on Tuesday

The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated 5,000 additional Covid-19 testing kits to the Maldives government.

This was revealed by the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), as such, WHO made the donation on Tuesday.

The organization has donated over 21,000 testing kits to Maldives thus far, and it has assured that more donations will be made in the future.

Earlier, WHO also donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the island nation, this includes gowns, gloves, face masks as well as face shields.

Maldives earlier stresses on the lack of testing capacity as the country’s Covid-19 cases surge. However, Covid-19 testing has now been made available at ADK Hospital, whereas only the laboratories at Maldives Police Service and Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital provided the service before.

The authorities earlier revealed that random sampling was limited due to a lack of testing capacity. NEOC has been working multiple avenues to increase the daily capacity.

Doctors have been stressing that authorities will be unable to identify the extent of the spread of the virus if the country’s testing capacity is not reinforced.
