Those stranded abroad amid the pandemic are being assisted by the government through NSPA and the country’s universal health scheme Aasandha.
As such, NSPA has provided financial assistance up to MVR 298,000 to 35 individuals that traveled via the authority as well as MVR 845,123 to 140 individuals that have been stranded abroad after traveling on their own.
Those that have been stuck abroad with no means to return due to the Covid-19 travel restrictions imposed in various countries across the world, have been urged to register at the respective embassies or high commissions.
A number of Maldivians have been repatriated from various nations since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, and all returnees are quarantined for a 14-day period and tested for the virus before release as part of the work to curb the spread of the disease.
Authorities began this procedure in late March.
