The People’s Majlis has compiled a standard operations’ procedures to hold sittings, under the new normal due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
While sittings have been held online since March 30 due to the crisis, it has been announced that the 40th sitting of the first session will be held at the Majlis building on Tuesday.
As per the new normal procedures, 42 out of the 87 members will be present on the parliament floor at any given time.
Furthermore, the parliament said that the purpose of reducing the number of MPs of the floor is to ensure that the Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s social distancing rules are followed.
The same procedures will be followed during voting as well. As such, members will be required to leave the session after voting after which the remaining MPs will enter the chamber take part in the vote.
In addition, a minimum of employees will be present during sittings.
Both lawmakers and employees will be required to wear masks for the entire sitting.
The People’s Majlis said that these measures will be implemented by the sergeant of arms, as per the instructions of the speaker.
