The Hulhumalé Medical Facility was completed in seven weeks
Construction of Hulhumalé Medical Facility has completed and has been handed over to state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
A handing over ceremony was held on Sunday, where Defence Minister Mariya Didi and Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal were in attendance as well as other senior government officials.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mariya thanked all soldiers and workers for “their painstaking, time-constrained efforts to complete the project” which she described as “a symbol of the spirit of humanity and cooperation in the face of adversity”.
Mariya thanked Fenaka Corporation and others that worked with MNDF to ensure that the facility completed on time, via Twitter, and praised them for “the friendly atmosphere in which [they] worked” despite the many challenges,
The defence chief also thanked the agencies that worked on the project, which was completed in seven weeks.
The five-block facility with 300 beds was developed incase of a rapid increase of Covid-19 cases in the country.
MVR 40 million was allocated for the project, including on required medical supplies.
