Some of the precautionary measures put in place in Vandhoo island of Thaa atoll due to the Covid-19 pandemic, have been lifted.

The island council revealed that although some of the precautionary measures have been eased, work is underway to place additional safety measures.

As such, island residents have been urged to follow the safety instructions such as wearing a face mask and practice social distancing when going out, gathering at public parks as well as restaurants and cafés.

Local shops operating in the island have also been permitted to remain open for services from 9am to 11pm every day, except for prayer times. Shop keepers are urged to follow the safety instructions and ensure the residents maintain social distancing when providing services.

Cargo services to and from the island has also been allowed, with set conditions. These services will be allowed two days a week; Saturday and Tuesday.

Atoll ferries and boats travelling to capital Malé City are exempt from this condition.

The southern side of the island harbor has been allocated to dock vessels and individuals have been urged to follow the guidelines set by the Local Government Authority (LGA) when delivering cargo to and from the island.

The council has also decided to allow reef fishing, under the guidelines set by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.

Further, the council will also be collecting information on the expatriates residing in the island and monitoring their situation once a week.

Individuals found violating council orders will be issued a warning the first time round and repeat offenders will be handed over to the police, in accordance with the extent of their violation.
