MET issues white alert for choppy seas from Haa Alif to Dhaalu atoll
The alert will be in effect from 2pm to 7pm

A white alert has been issued from Haa Alif atoll to Dhaal atoll.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) issued the advisory on Friday afternoon, predicting strong winds of 19 – 24 miles per hour gusting to 45 miles per hour with choppy seas, to prevail throughout these regions.

The advisory states that the alert will be in effect from 2pm to 7pm.

The white alert are among several issued across the Maldives over the course of the past few days, since the southwest monsoon began.

Another one was issued from Haa Alif to southernmost Addu City on Friday morning as well.

Generally, scattered rain showers with occasional squally showers and thunderstorms are expected over the entire country with winds varying between southwest to westerly in the south and west to northwesterly elsewhere at 15 – 25 miles per hour.

Winds are expected to gust between 45 – 55 miles per hour during showers.

Choppy seas will prevail throughout the country with the possibility to swell wave surges during high tides.

The department urged individuals to be cautious of the adverse weather conditions and strong monsoon activities such as heavy rain and strong winds.
