Ex-VP makes "Covid corruption" claims against ministers
"So many irregularities and total disregard to relevant laws and procedures at all levels”

Welcome critical thinking to ensure the accountability of government officials: health minister

Corruption allegations has been made against Health Minister Abdulla Ameen and Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer.

The allegations were made by former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.

While he made the allegations via a tweet adding that they will be held accountable for their actions, Jameel told RaajjeMV a number of ministers are involved in the “Covid corruption” but that the health and finance ministers “are the main culprits”.

He added that the State Trading Organization is being used “as the main vehicle” for their corrupt activities.

Noting that there have been “so many irregularities and total disregard to relevant laws and procedures at all levels”, the former VP said this “is a bigger corruption scandal that the MMPRC [Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation] one”.

He added that incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will also be charged over the corruption, if former President Abdulla Yameen can be charged over the MMPRC scandal “despite having no involvement”.

Jameel, a lawyer, expressed confidence that these charges can be proven against the incumbent administration at court. He said that an independent investigation can be carried out after a new administration takes office.

When RaajjeMV questioned Health Minister Ameen over the allegations, he said that they welcome such critical thinking to ensure the accountability of government officials and added that their main priority is the safety of the Maldivian people.

RaajjeMV was unable to get a comment from the finance minister at the time of publishing.
