The United States has offered assistance in Maldives Covid-19 response efforts.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and US National Security Advisor Robert C. O’Brien discussed the ongoing pandemic that has been sweeping across the globe since early 2020.
Noting that it was a pleasure to discuss the Covid-19 combat efforts being carried out by both nations, the president thanked the United States for its support to Maldives.
Solih also stressed that “global solidarity and cooperation are paramount to overcome challenges brought about by the pandemic”.
The US National Security also posted some tweets following the exchange, and said that the discussions revolved around “efforts to combat the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and ways to restore economic growth”.
The Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs is to have offered US assistance to provide “critical care to the citizens of Maldives” during these trying times.
Solih and Robert also discussed the importance of multilateral debt relief for Maldives and other such nations, “as the global pandemic begins to recover”.
Earlier this month, the United States donated USD two million to support Maldives’ Covid-19 response efforts.
