Those injured in the boat accident at around midnight on Tuesday, after a vessel operated by Summer Island Resort collided with one docked near Reethi Rah Resort, are being treated at the privately owned ADK Hospital.

The hospital said that some of the patients had sustained severe injuries, with four in critical condition. ADK’s Director Ahmed Af’aal said these four patients are being treated in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, and that 11 are being kept in observation.

10 of said patients are Maldivian, in addition to one expatriate. The four patients in intensive care are all Maldivian.

The boat was travelling to Summer Island Resort, to the north of Kaafu atoll, when it crashed into a vessel docked at the Reethi Rah Resort.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) had dispatched rescue officers as soon as the incident was reported to them, and that their sea ambulance services were active in transporting the injured individuals for treatment back to the capital.

The MNDF reported that most of the injured individuals are members of Summer Island's staff.

The boat's driver reported that the docked vessel had not been lit and therefore he was unable to see it.

The incident is now being investigated.
