"Covid-19 might be a seasonal virus"

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that there is a possibility that the global Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic could be a seasonal virus.

This was revealed by Epidemiologist at HPA, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal during Thursday night’s press briefing at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC).

Highlighting that authorities are yet to have the pandemic all figured out, the doctor stated that there is room to predict this virus “could be a seasonal one”.

Further enlightening his point, Dr. Afzal took the examples of the global swine flu (H1N1) endemic of the past.

Endemic viruses surface in specific regions of the world frequently and they are deemed common viruses due to their wide-spreading nature.

Scientific research support the strategy of Covid-19 being a seasonal virus, however, this can only be proved after additional research or a serologic test to determine the extent of antibodies that remain in the human body after contracting and recovering from the disease.
