Berries contaminated with Norovirus being pulled from store shelves

MFDA cautioned the public to be wary of the said brand, and refrain from using or importing it

MFDA revealed that raspberries of the brand have only been imported to resorts thus far

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has recalled frozen raspberries from the market, following reports of contagious vomiting bug, Norovirus contamination.

MFDA warned of the possible Norovirus outbreak following an alert by Europe’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) which urged individually quick-frozen raspberries of the brand “Himbeeren” to be pulled from store shelves, immediately.

The contaminated berries have thus far only been distributed to local resorts, MFDA highlighted, going on to urge the public to refrain from importing or distributing the product. Food importers and suppliers have been urged to give special attention to the brand when importing frozen raspberries.

While no illnesses from the vomiting bug have been reported thus far, Norovirus causes hostile diarrhea, headaches, body aches and high temperatures and targets people of all ages.

The disease may be spread through direct contact with an infected person, consuming contamination food or even coming in contact with contaminated surfaces.
