Work is being done to hold a parliament sitting this week, says the ruling party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

A senior parliamentary group member of PPM told RaajjeMV that nothing has been finalized yet.

While the last parliament sitting was held on March 14, the first parliamentary session of the year is set to conclude on April 30.

Three parliament sessions are held each year. The first session is held from the first of February to the end of April, the second from the first of June to the end of August, and the third from the first of October to the end of November.

While the sittings were supposedly halted due to a lack of work, six bills are currently on the parliament floor. Five bills have been sent to the committees while another bill is still stuck in the debate stage.

The stalled bills include ones on the media commission, education, evidence, foreign services, and a bill on taking a vote to survey citizens’ welfare.
