Maldivians stranded in Ukraine are to be repatriated this week.

The Covid-19 taskforce’s spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz, at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC)’s daily press conference on Monday night, revealed that work is underway to repatriate Maldivian students in Ukraine.

Speaking further on the matter, foreign ministry’s Communications Director Miuvan Mohamed told RaajjeMV that a Ukrainian flight is to arrive in Maldives to repatriate their citizens “this week”.

He said that arrangements are being made to bring back over 30 Maldivians via this flight, adding that the ministry is in contact with the students in Ukraine.

Miuvan further said that details of the flight are yet to confirmed.

A flight of SkyUp airlines, from Ukraine, is scheduled for this Friday.

A number of Maldivians stranded abroad as well as medical students have been brought back, through chartered national airline flights as well as foreign assistance. There have been repatriation flights from Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia, India and Indonesia.

All returnees are being quarantined for a 14-day period and tested for coronavirus before release, since March 21. Five returnees have tested positive for Covid-19 thus far.
