Four people were arrested for breaching the Covid-19 lockdown, on Monday.
While four people were arrested for breaching lockdown on Monday alone, a total of 137 people have been arrested thus far. 127 of the arrests were made in Malé City with eight from the capital’s suburb Hulhumalé.
Mabrook stressed that these were individuals that did not have the required permit to be outside.
Further, 136 people were fined on Monday. A total of 2,312 fines have been issued thus far.
A lockdown was imposed in the capital Malé City following the detection of a Covid-19 community transmission on April 15. While this was extended by 24 hours, it has since been extended by 14 days, twice. Hence, the current lockdown will remain in place until May 14.
While a person found to have violated the director general of public health's lockdown order will face a MVR 1,000 fine the first time, repeat offenders will be arrested under Articl 533 (a) of the Penal Code.
