Chair of the Covid-19 task force in Narudhoo island of Shaviyani atoll, Musthafa Moosa has revealed that test results are pending for 29 samples collected from the island.

In a phone interview with RaajjeTV during the station’s Covid-19 Coverage, Moosa revealed that a total of 52 samples have been collected from the island thus far out of which 11 have tested positive from the island.

12 samples tested negative for the Covid-19 virus and test results for 29 samples are pending.

Further, Moosa highlighted that there are currently 12 locations on the island, under monitoring and added that contact tracing is being conducted at three vulnerable regions.

Moosa stressed that they do not have enough face masks for the entire island community although the island has enough healthcare supplies. The residents have begun using a generous donation of sewn masks from a well-wisher.

Adding that the task force is closely monitoring the condition of the community, Moosa said that they have established a hotline to be used is anyone exhibits flu symptoms.

In addition, the task force chair noted that the people are cooperating with the authorities as there is fear of a community spread. It was also highlighted that patients discovered from the island, had no symptoms.

The first Covid-19 case from the island, was discovered from the captain of “Amaaz” boat.

The boat and the island were brought under monitoring after the 49-year-old captain turned positive for the virus.

A total of 11 individuals have tested positive for the infection thus far on the island, including family members of the captain.

Narudhoo island has the second highest number of Covid-19 cases other than capital Malé City.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) earlier confirmed that 101 primary contacts of the boat captain had been identified.

The captain is to have taken 98 passengers to 13 islands in the north from locked down capital city Malé.

The government dispatched a team of senior government officials and medical experts to the island to inspect the Covid-19 related arrangements.
