Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has revealed that one of their employees had tested positive to the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infection.

This was revealed by the company’s Managing Director, Shahid Ali during a press briefing on Friday afternoon.

As such, Shahid noted that the employee tested positive for the virus five days back and that the employee last came into work on April 18.

Highlighting that the bigger percentage of cargo imported into the island nation is through the commercial harbor in capital Malé City, the company’s MD stressed on the importance of port operations in the current situation.

In light of this, Shahid noted that there are 168 employees from different sectors currently locked down at the port in order to continue uninterrupted operations.

The positive patient was not among those locked down at the port, enlightened Shahid.

While no cases have been reported since then, MPL is implementing a lot of measures to ensure the safety of all of its employees.
